About ShopTemecula Wines Acknowledgement This page, a standard on most web sites, and known as the “about us” page, is really a misnomer. Though it may give you background information on the creators and operators of a web site, it is not really what most visitors on the net are interested in. Instead, an “about you” page, and what we will be doing for you is probably more of interest. And that is really how we feel, here at ShopTemecualaWines.com! And so we want to tell you what it is “about you” that we love, and want to serve. Please note that we do acknowledge that background information on the operators of a web site can put one’s mind at ease, when it comes to being able to trust the operators with, many times, your personal information, which is necessary for most commercial web sites to conduct “e-commerce”. So, with that understanding, in our effort to serve you, we present what may set your mind at ease in doing business with us, by allowing you to learn “about us”, further down the page. About You: Special Thanks to our Inspirations: Many of the folks we have met over the years, in Temecula Wine Country, have expressed a special passion and affection for the valley and its wines…. almost in a possessive, protective way…… especially when being exposed to negative comments from many in the wine industry, further north, who have always looked askance at “our” wines and wineries, without ever having even really tried them!. This is also for so many of you who visit “our” wine country for the first time, and are really blown away by the commitment to quality, at all levels, at so many of the wineries in the valley…. big and small! But, it is also because of the very quaint, down home feel, that is so prevalent throughout the valley, especially due to the boutique nature of the majority of our mostly family run wineries. It is because of you folks, those who live here, those who visit here, and those who have laid most of their resources and dreams on the line, for the pursuit of creating the “perfect” wine (and hopefully finding it), along with the genuine family fun atmosphere which is known as Temecula Wine Country, that we created a company with the mission of “Putting Temecula Wines on the World Map….. in a Whole New Way!”™ Very Special Inspiration: Special acknowledgment goes out to two particular people that we’ve now known since the late nineties, who inspired us with their “decades” of energetic passion for Temecula Wine Country. One is an original icon in the valley, “The One Man Winery”, Barrett Bird of Santa Margarita Winery. Never have I met such a self-effacing, gentle and talented man, whose very glands seem to ooze wine every time you get him talking about wine making. Barrett Bird is truly one of the original pillars on which the success of this valley has been built, and to whose legacy we’re committed to keeping alive. It is because of you, Barrett, providing that initial inspirational spark, that we now do what we do here at ShopTemeculaWines! We love you Barrett! The other person is probably the most knowledgeable man on the original history and original wine making personalities of this valley. He is long time local newspaper wine columnist and author, Vick Knight. Thank you for writing in great detail, in your various editions of “Toasting Temecula Wines”, about the stories, and the passions, of the original founding visionaries, who so believed in what this valley could become. Truly you have provided an inspiration, to this writer and talk radio broadcaster, to follow in your “detailing” footsteps, especially now, in this era of the “New Media”. About the Founders www.ShopTemeculaWines.com , originally released in October 2004 as www.TemeculaWinesOnLine.com , and “WineCountryTalkRadio™”, originally debutting as “Temecula Wine Talk - the radio show™ “, on NewsTalk 590 KTIE, out of San Bernadino, are founded and directed by Le Roy and Phyllis Guilford, of Perris, California, which is located just 25 minutes north of Temecula Wine Country. Born and raised in Southern California, The Guilfords decided in 1988 to move their young family from Orange County, to what was then a little more “country”, the Riverside/San Bernardino area, which is also known to Southern Californians as the Inland Empire. Now having located in close proximity to Temecula Wine Country, they subsequently fell in love with the quaint atmosphere of the handful of established and newly blossoming wineries, as their own appreciation of wine was just budding. “In the early to mid-nineties, my wife and I would take our three “early teens” children out to brunch with us, after church on many Sundays, to places like Culbertson’s (now Thornton Winery), which was one of the first restaurants in Wine Country”, says Le Roy. “We always loved the Sunday drives through the country, and the family feel of the valley”. Having been not just a veteran part timer in the broadcast industry of the Inland Empire, but also a 30 year full time grocery industry veteran, Mr. Guilford began working in the Wine Country area in 1999 for Stater Bros Mkts, at their newly acquired former Albertson’s location, at Hwy 79 South and Redhawk Parkway. As Stater Bros remodeled the store into its own specifically localized design, committing a major portion of their wine and beverage department to the local wineries, this location rapidly became one of the foremost retailers of local wines. Observing the growing quality and esteem being paid to the local wines, it was during this time that the Guilfords began researching a way to better share ALL of the Temecula Valley Wine Country with the rest of the world. Seeing a need to create a single source point for information about ALL of the wines made in the valley, and a place to obtain them…. and after lengthy research and a long learning curve, including a few mistakes along the way, here you now have it, the new www.ShopTemeculaWines.com , a truly dedicated labor of love! Persuing Excellence: Pursuing professional excellence, Mr Guilford was invited to, and attended the first (2005) and third (2007) Annual Symposium for Professional Wine Writers, held at Meadowood Resort, Napa Valley, CA. This encompasses about 40 wineries. Our site will also offer wine reviews and recommendations, and an opportunity for reviews to be posted by you, our customer. When you enter the site, one must pass thru an acknowledgement of legal age restrictions, as well as legal state shipping restrictions. One then enters our home page in shopping cart mode, ready for you, our customer, to place purchasing service orders (see “Liquor by Wire”, ABC ruling that governs TWOL operations). A qualified purchaser can then place an order for any mixture of available featured wine, which will reflect the wineries' respective retail/club price. We then go directly to each winery or alternate source point and purchase each wine in the order at retail, or club member discount retail, where we are able to obtain such, and pass that price directly to you with NO markup.
